Tim and Christa Simmons Prayer Letter: More Opportunities to Serve the LordDiscipleship Class

In December, I mentioned to Pastor Silva the possibility of doing a discipleship class, with the goal of helping new Christians learn the basic doctrines of the Bible. The church had done a class in the past, but it had been several years since the most recent class. He asked me to head up the class. We decided to meet on Saturday afternoons at 4:00, which is when the weekly teen activity starts. For now, we are having the class every other Saturday when the activity is held at the main church. I was able to get permission to print the 20 lessons in Spanish from a series called Foundations of My Faith. I went through this series in English and have led others through it as well. At the first class, 7 people came. I was very surprised at the second class, when over 30 people came! It is a great joy to see the teenagers involved in the class and then later answering the questions and memorizing the verses. I taught a recent discipleship lesson on baptism. I told the people that the church is working on getting the baptistery fixed so we can baptize soon. It looks like there are a number of young people who are ready to be baptized. One adult man named Matias mentioned to me that he had been saved for 14 years. He said that he had completed the Bible institute but had never participated in a discipleship class. We plan to give diplomas to those who complete the class. Please pray that those in the class will not only complete the lessons, but will also get a strong foundation in the Bible.

New Church Service

On Thursday evenings, we have been helping bring children to church for Bible school. In February, the pastor talked to me about starting a service again on Thursdays for adults and teens. He asked me to be ready to preach every Thursday. Up to this point, we have had only teens in the service. I am excited about having this new service because it’s another opportunity to teach the teens. I’ve been teaching them how to do “Sword Drills” so they can learn how to find verses. We’ve also started working on Scripture memorization as well. Please pray for this service. Pray that more adults and teens would be faithful to church.

Thank you for your prayers and support.
