LATEST
Our family began our furlough a month ago with Maria’s amazing parents in Indiana. Now we are with my wonderful parents in Virginia. We were able to attend my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary celebration! (See photo below.)
Soul Winning
Our flight to the States was delayed a day, so we stayed the night in Accra, the capital city. It was a joy to lead three taxi drivers to Christ. Then, on the flight to the States, the man seated beside me listened well to the Gospel and professed his faith in Christ. The Saturday after we arrived in the States, we had a great time on our son John’s Chicago bus route. Maria led a young girl to Christ. I invited a Venezuelan father and his daughter, and they came with us to the First Baptist Church of Hammond the next day. What a blessing it was to win them to Christ on the way back to Chicago. In Virginia, John won a teen named Juan to Christ, and he attended church the next week. Joy led a teenage girl named Micah to Christ as our family knocked doors inviting folks to a Vacation Bible School.
Hospital Visit
This past Saturday, my dad and I made a hospital visit. We visited a dear friend, Tommy Huff, with whom we went to church over 38 years ago. Bro. Tommy is over 90 years old and is recovering from a stroke. As we visited, the cleaning lady came through. In speaking to her, I immediately recognized her accent. I asked her, “Are you from Liberia?” She said, “Yes!” Her name was Maame. We agreed that after our visit with Bro. Tommy, we would have a Bible study with her during her break time. Dad and I spent more time with Bro. Tommy; then we prayed with him and said our goodbyes. Maame was lingering nearby, and we sat down in a waiting area. She listened so well as I shared the Gospel with her. I thank the Lord that she trusted Christ as Saviour. My dad and I were rejoicing in all that God had done to arrange that divine appointment. What a blessed time it was with my dad!
Great Report from Ghana!
Normally, when I travel to the States, the average attendance in our adult Sunday school class dips by 10-20. But this time, the class has maintained its momentum at above 120. I credit this to God’s favor and to the 22 group leaders in our class who each agreed to keep in touch with 5-10 of their fellow members. Bro. Peter Frimpong assists me in the class and is doing a great job of caring for things in my absence. Also, I have heard of 2 of our members who have gone out soul winning for the first time. Pray for our members to keep growing in grace.
Prayer Requests
Please pray that our family will be a blessing as we travel. In July, we’ll be at Maria’s parents’ home once again and make trips to Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Then it’s back to Ghana at the end of July. We are so thankful for the hospitality of pastors and churches and family and friends! Also, another request—John just completed his sophomore year at Hyles-Anderson College. (We have enjoyed the extra time we have gotten to spend with him!) Last year, he surrendered to be a missionary and is seeking the Lord’s will about where to serve. But this fall, the college is offering an internship with our church in Ghana, and John plans to take part! During this time, John will get to learn and experience things that were not available to him growing up in Ghana. We praise the Lord for providing the funds needed for him to participate in this internship. God is already showing Himself strong on John’s behalf. Please pray for God to continue to work in John’s life.
Thank you for believing in us!
