LARAE HOFF

SERVING WITH TEAM GHANA

ABOUT

Birthday 6/30

I was born and raised in a Christian home. At age seven during Vacation Bible School, I asked Christ into my heart. When I turned thirteen, something happened to me which I blamed God for and started a path of rebellion. A few days later, I heard a message on a radio program saying that if you are not a Christian then you will go to Hell. That night I prayed “fire insurance prayers,” asking Christ to forgive me. However, I didn’t change physically or spiritually. I prayed those “fire insurance prayers” every night until my junior year of high school. At age sixteen, during a winter youth event, my pastor’s wife helped me get assurance of my salvation. I did a 180-degree turn and have never doubted since.

When I finished high school, I planned to work in the medical field. But when my pastor’s wife asked me to teach the 2-3 year old Sunday School class, it showed us both that I had a gift working with children. Through the years, I have been able to help with teaching Bible Clubs, counseling at Christian Camps, and working in various Church ministries.

When missionaries came to my church, I always enjoyed hearing their stories. Going on my first overseas mission trip in college made missions real to me, and it opened my heart with a desire to serve God full time overseas. Through the years God has opened and closed doors, allowing me many learning experiences in my Christian life. But the verses in Jeremiah 29:11 and Proverbs 16:9 have taught me that God’s plan and timing are perfect!

God has blessed me with the opportunity to serve with FBMI (Fundamental Baptist Missions International) in Kumasi, Ghana, West Africa and to help their team. My goal is to work with the village Churches and to help them start a children’s ministry. I am excited to see what God will do in and through me as I move forward to serve Him!

I would appreciate the opportunity to share with your congregation my goals, both short range and long range. I obviously am in need of financial support but even more than that I need to develop a prayer team that will support me on a regular basis. “Without Him, I can do nothing.” I need your prayers. Thank you for your time and consideration of my ministry.

  • Larae Hoff Prayer Letter: So Much Excitement Going On!I would like to thank everyone for praying for me. There is so much excitement going on with the many areas of ministry and opportunities. It is a great blessing!

Our school, Fundamental Baptist Academy, is almost on a break. The school system here in Ghana is divided into three terms, and this is the third term right now. Our last day of school is July 31, and we will be having our Kindergarten Graduation that day! It will be exciting to watch these 55 children graduate. It has been a joy to work alongside the FBA teachers. Please pray as we prepare for the next school year, which will start on September 9.

In my last letter, I told you that I would be starting the ministry of helping with our village/daughter churches in their children’s ministries. The weekend of June 22, I started helping with Fundamental Baptist Church of Mamponteng. Their church, led by Pastor Kingsley Addai, will turn 6 in October. When I arrived, they had just changed leadership in the children’s Sunday school class and had 6 workers who were helping with a Saturday morning Bible Club. My first Saturday, they decided to switch locations, and that day we had over 60 children. When I finished the Bible lesson and gave the invitation, every child raised their hand. The hardest part in Bible Club training is the missionary story. It is hard for workers to grasp some of the English words in the story. On August 3, we will be starting their children’s church, and on the 17th, we will be dividing the children’s Sunday school into a girls’ class and a boys’ class. This church did their first Vacation Bible School last year. They have plans to have it again this year August 26-29. I’ve been helping their children’s ministry leader to organize it. It’s been a blessing to train these workers and to see them have an understanding of what’s been put into practice. Please continue to pray for me to have wisdom and that I will speak clearly to these workers.

On Saturday, June 28, the Bible Club workers had a surreal experience. They got word that a ten-year-old boy by the name of Nick, who had attended Bible Club the previous week, had died suddenly in a drowning accident on Sunday, the 29th. One of the gentlemen had shared the Gospel with him, and Nick said he got saved that Saturday. Please pray for Nick’s family. This shows how important it is to share the Gospel with the many people we each meet.

One of my missionary coworkers told me that when they do “public school preaching,” they needed help with the lower and primary grades. I talked with two ladies who have helped translate for me before, and they agreed to go with me. We were blessed to teach in a classroom with 54 children, where their teachers also stayed and listened to the Gospel message. The week after we finished teaching using the picture booklet, we went to their classroom to do “confirmation.” “Confirmation” is when we go to the classrooms and take the children aside and talk to them one on one to see if they understood the teachings. When we talked with the students in my class, out of the 15 we spoke to, 12 of them said they had gotten saved by us teaching them!

What an answer to prayer! This Sunday, July 13, was a super blessing! In the morning in Mamponteng, it was a blessing to see 5 boys who came to the Bible Club on Saturday come to church. In the evening service at our church in Bohyen (the one by my house), it was a blessing to see a boy by the name of Beni, who attended the Bible Club I did at my house! Praise the Lord!
