SERVING WITH TEAM PERU

ABOUT

Zach Birthday 05/18

Zach & Karin Wedding Anniversary 07/22

I was not raised in church but had good parents, and we considered ours a Christian home. I came to Christ through a Christian-school ministry. I was asked to work on a bus route sometime later and began to attend church. In 1989 my pastor took our youth group to Youth Conference in Hammond, Indiana. While Bro. Hyles preached his famous sermon, “Breathe, Sharon, Breathe,” my heart was touched to serve God with my life.
The next year at Pastors’ School, Mrs. Rose O’Brien spoke about starting a Spanish Ministry. I asked my pastor if I could start a ministry to the migrant workers in our area. He agreed, and we saw 92 trust Christ the first day. The ministry continued through the summer. The next year I began teaching an adult Sunday school class and preaching in Spanish.
When I arrived at Hyles-Anderson College, I began working in the Spanish Sunday school. The next year I began working on a bus route in Little Village, a predominately Spanish area. I began teaching at City Baptist Schools after graduation, where I have had the opportunity to serve for the last 15 years. I now manage the office and help with the Spanish translating.
My wife Karin was raised in a faithful deacon’s home. She helped her father on his bus route every week. She decided to attend Hyles-Anderson College after the death of a close friend. We met while both working security. God has blessed us with three fine boys: Zachary, Caleb, and Logan.

  • Zach and Karin Foust Sr. Prayer Letter: Exciting Things Are Happening! The year 2025 is already halfway over as we close out the month of June. It seems as we grow older, time moves more quickly! We find that it is more urgent now than ever to work and win as many souls as we can while we still have time! We appreciate your faithful prayers and support for our family as we endeavor to reach the lost and strengthen the churches in Lima, Peru.

Several exciting things have happened since our last prayer update. The wedding of our second son Caleb to Leah Deneau on June 13 tops that list! The wedding was a beautiful event, and all went well. We are so proud of these two young people and are excited to see how God will use their lives as they serve in South Dakota. Karin’s mom was able to attend the wedding, which was a great blessing! Many of you prayed for her back operation and recuperation at the beginning of this year; we were thankful she was able to be a part!

We were able to visit our newest church plant in Bogotá, Colombia, with our missionary, Exodo Buitrago, and his family for the opening of their church. What a blessing it was to see that family serving there and to experience the birth of a new church. Many have been saved and are being baptized and discipled there in IBI Bogotá. Please keep praying for Bro. Exodo and his family.

Many thanks to those who gave toward our Christian school and curriculum project! Wow! We are overwhelmed by the goodness of God’s people. God is great! Our school is now able to keep paying those who are helping Karin write curriculum, and we are able to purchase a color printer as well! Our next project is to establish a website for homeschool parents and smaller Christian schools in Spanish-speaking countries to be able to use for their schooling needs. Please pray about this.
Speaking of education, IBI Institute is having a great semester, with several new students and a few set to graduate in December. We will finish this semester at the end of July and then have our winter break until after our Pastors’ Conference in September. Please pray for our students and teachers as we go forward in training these dedicated people to serve Jesus.

We have been able to hold two Pastors’ Conferences in different parts of Peru in the last couple of months. We call these conferences Escuela de Pastores, which is the same name we use for our conference in Lima. We bring several members of Team Peru with us and one or two other national pastors and spend a few days training and preaching there. We always come away blessed, as we get to see people who have a heart for God in different parts of our country and get to help encourage the work that other pastors and missionaries are doing. In the last 2 conferences, more than 100 people trusted Christ during soul-winning time! Several surrendered to serve the Lord, many made good decisions, and we hope the Lord was glorified. These conferences happen throughout the year, and we are thankful for our team here in Lima that works hard to make everything run smoothly and for those churches and pastors who host us.

Here in Lima, our church is growing! We are trying to find ways to accommodate more seating in our current location. Our big prayer request right now is for a property that we could grow into. Property in our area is ridiculously expensive, but we feel that God would have us to find something here in Surco. We know God can do it; we ask for your prayers. Our people are a giving group, and we thank God for their spirit of sacrifice. Please pray also that our church would grow spiritually. This past week, we held our annual “Bus-a-Thon,” where we preach on the buses all over Lima. We had185 people trust Christ that day, and more than 4,000 heard the Gospel on buses as they traveled the city. To God be the glory!

Thank you for praying for our family. May God richly bless you as you continue to serve Him.

    Zach and Karin Foust
