  • Gregg and Angela Schoof Prayer Letter: Helping a Small Church GrowIn March, we started working with a new church called Bwerenga Bible Baptist Church. The pastor had only been there a short time and needed some help. They only had a few adults coming on Sunday mornings, and the spirit was a bit down. He was really thrilled when my family started going out soul winning with him. In 2 months, we saw 39 saved and 5-6 visitors each week. We also had 5 that the pastor baptized in the lake.

Now that sounds nice to baptize in the lake, but it really was not that special. It was a two-mile walk there, and many could not make it . . . and he also had to poke around to make sure there were no crocodiles. They had a baptistery tank, but it had big rust holes in the bottom. So, I have been getting that fixed up and painted so that we don’t have to take the four-mile round-trip hike to the lake anymore! We already have several lined up to use it once I get it back in place.

I have also been building a steeple for the church. Now I just have to paint it. Angela was witnessing to a lady only about 30 feet from the front gate, and the lady did not even know a church was there. So, the steeple will show everyone clearly that a church is indeed there. We also built a big sign to go out on the tarmac road to point to the church.

Last week, there were two teenage boys who missed the church road and went two miles to the lake while looking for the church. At least they had bicycles, so it was not so bad. They did eventually find the church, and I had the joy of leading them both to Christ after the service. We should get the new sign in the ground next week to help others find their way.

My family has also been helping the pastor with teaching Sunday school, starting a choir, and leading songs; and I have been having long talks with him about different church organizational issues. I also started a Bible-memorization time, and people are liking it. If your church is interested, I put the program on my page on my website: MtGerizim.com.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

    In His service,

Gregg, Angela, Virginia, Micah, and Zachery Schoof
