COREY
I grew up in a home where we never talked about Jesus, never went to church, and never talked about Heaven and Hell. I was, however, taught many Christian principles, such as honesty, love your neighbor, and be kind to everyone regardless of their skin color, financial situation, or social class. For this I am very grateful. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I would hear anything about Jesus.

I met the person whom God would use to expose me to the Gospel early one Sunday morning. I was working at the family business, and I was introduced to a new employee. My life, from that moment forward, would never be the same. Standing at the grill making breakfast sandwiches was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. Over the next several months, I would get to know her to be much more than just beautiful. I had to ask her out. Surprisingly, she said “Yes,” and we started spending more time together.

She invited me to go to church with her on a Sunday night. I enjoyed the service but did not hear the Gospel. I started going to church every Sunday night and joined the midweek youth group meeting. I began learning more about the Bible but still did not hear the Gospel and was still on my way to Hell.

One Friday night there was a big youth activity called the Super Bowl. We watched a minor league hockey game, and afterwards the teens stayed behind and played some games. To end our time at the rink, they had a preacher of the Gospel come out and give the Gospel message.

For the first time in my life, I heard about eternity in a way that made sense. I knew I was a sinner and could not get to Heaven on my own. My stomach felt like it was on fire when the invitation came to except Christ’s payment for my sin. The thought came over my mind that if I did not except right then, I would never have another opportunity.

I got out of my seat and made my way up the aisle to the back where men were waiting with Bibles in their hands to tell us how to be saved. I accepted Christ and Him alone for salvation. It was like a weight was lifted that day. I was a different person after that point and realized my life is not about me, but Christ.

ELIZABETH
I began attending church when I was seven years old. Shortly thereafter, I accepted Christ as my Saviour during a children’s church invitation. I then began attending a Christian school. I graduated from there and went on to attend Hyles-Anderson College. I’ve had a strong desire towards missions since I was 11 years old, and I am excited to be used in reaching those to whom the Gospel is hid.

Our objective is to build on the work that has already been done, to establish an expectation among the national pastors of soul winning, discipleship, and church planting. To assist in this process, we will mobilize small teams to go out for a couple of weeks at a time to help these new churches and pastors in remote areas by teaching and discipling them. Later we will return on a regular basis to see their progress. We will then teach the national pastors and their people to do likewise.

For those who are called of God to be in full-time ministry, we will have a Bible college for more
in-depth training. This will enable the team to observe, train, and disciple these men for the
future ministry of pastoring and church planting. To encourage these national pastors from Kenya and neighboring countries, we will have an annual Pastors’ School, where pastors can pray together, learn together, and have a time of fellowship and encouragement with likeminded fundamental, independent Baptist pastors and missionaries.

We believe that this focus on soul winning, teaching, discipling, and local churches reproducing
themselves through the planting of other local churches and teaching Africans to reach Africans for the cause of Christ is the best way to fulfill the Great Commission. It is now time to start a
multiplication effect that will spread across East Africa and have an impact around the world.

  • Corey and Elizabeth McDonald Prayer Letter: Exciting EventsThe past couple months have brought some exciting events. We thank you for your continued prayers and support that allow us to do God’s work in Kenya.

I was reminded recently that God will use even the smallest interaction to begin changing someone’s life. A young man visited the church a while ago, and I asked how he heard about the church. He told me that one day I said hi to him while I was driving into the church. Teddy lives in an apartment just behind the church. Since his first visit, he has received Christ and been fully committed to the church and all of our activities. I hope to baptize him, along with several others who have recently trusted Christ. One of those is a young man named Andrew. He came to church and raised his hand during invitation, and I was able to lead him to Christ. Just three weeks ago, a 16-year-old young lady named Joy came to church after being invited over a year ago. Since receiving the invite, we have changed locations, but she still found us. She raised her hand during the invitation, and my wife was sweetly able to lead her to the Lord. All three of these young people have joined our Bible institute.

Recently, we were blessed with a visit by a group from Teaching All Nations. God had been stirring a desire in our hearts to start a Bible institute at our church. I wasn’t sure how many people would commit to attending, but God did. On Saturday night, we had a service to introduce the institute, and on Sunday, we had an afternoon service doing a sample TAN lesson. We had 24 people attend, well above my expectation of 2. We are now averaging about 15 every week at the institute.

With the group visiting, we took the opportunity to host a Ladies’ Meeting. Elizabeth was excited to be able to host and be a blessing to other missionary ladies, national pastors’ wives, and other local ladies. Initially, we thought we might have about 40 ladies come. As time went on, we were able to invite churches we didn’t previously have contact with, and our expectation grew to 80. A couple of days before the meeting, we had more ladies RSVP, and our number grew to 100. The actual number of ladies who attended was 127, representing 12 churches. My wife had several local ladies visit who had never come to church. It was a wonderful meeting. Robin and Cecia Ogle, along with the entire TAN group, were such a blessing. The spirit of the group was very sweet. We had several ladies ask us when the next meeting was going to be. One of the biggest blessings of the meeting was seeing several men from our church take the day off from work to cook for and serve the ladies.

We have now been in Kenya for six years! We praise God for sustaining us and using us to do His work. A lot has changed in these six years. In the first place, our ministry focus has changed. Upon being full-time in Kenya, we realized working with national pastors was not the best use of our time. Are you familiar with the phrase, “You can’t teach old dogs new tricks”? After seven months of working alongside national pastors, we came to this conclusion, and God led us to start and pastor a soul-winning, Bible-believing church as a model for church plants to come. With starting a church came the unplanned expenses of church rent.

Secondly, in the last six years, living expenses in Kenya have risen by 25%. Thirdly, our family has grown by two, but what impacts us most is that our children who were once nine, seven, five, three, and one are now
fifteen, thirteen, eleven, nine, six, four, and one. They warn you about it, but you are never fully ready for that teenage appetite.

In the coming weeks, I will emailing be my missionary information packet to like-minded churches in an effort to raise the additional monthly support necessary for continuing our work here in Kenya. Please join us in praying that this need will be met and that God’s work here can continue to grow and flourish.
