The month of April brought some exciting blessings here in Peru! The beginning of the month brought a new semester of our Bible institute, where we have students training to serve the Lord from different churches here in Peru. Our church alone currently has 15 men and women studying and working in the institute. Cassandra and I are both teaching classes, and we’re off to a great start. Team Peru’s Christian school is well underway in the fall semester (yes, it’s fall here in Peru), and Cassandra has her hands full with high school science, English, and music classes.
We had a big push at our church for Easter Sunday! We had some friendly competition with our bus routes, Sunday schools, and personal witnessing. We ended up having 209 in attendance, with 16 adult visitors and 8 adults accepting Christ as Saviour. One new family came to church from our route, having received an invitation under their door. Both the dad and mom made a profession of faith.
We have some big prayer requests! Please pray for our visa process here. We have been in Peru up till now on a tourist visa. We had been in the process of getting our temporary residency cards, which would allow us much more freedom to enter and leave the country. We were almost completed with this process when I had emergency surgery back in August of last year. Being out of the country for that amount of time caused our visa process to reset back to zero. In the month of June, my brother C.J. is getting married! We are looking forward to the wedding but will return to the States a couple of weeks early to complete some much-needed paperwork. Please pray that things go smoothly so that we can move forward with our residency process.
Please pray as well for my health and continued recovery. I continue to see improvement; however, there are some lingering symptoms since the surgery. I’ll have more doctor’s appointments upon returning to the States for my brother’s wedding.
Please pray for a young man named Rodrigo, whom I led to the Lord in January and baptized. He is finishing our discipleship program and has recently joined our bus route. It’s exciting to see the Lord work in his life!
Also, a big request is for our national pastor friend, Romario Bustamante. He has a thriving church and ministry in the jungle in Iquitos. We had a building project planned in July to help him build a church building on his property. A group from Beth Haven Baptist Church in Sheridan, Michigan, was coming to help with the project. However, in the last few weeks, Iquitos has had extreme flooding, and his property is under water. The project will have to be postponed. We look forward to updating you all again soon with what the Lord is doing in Peru! We have some big trips planned in the next couple of months to different parts of Peru, helping to host conferences and reaching new villages in the jungle. We’ll also be starting our attendance program here at church and look forward to sharing that as well.
God bless you all,
Zach and Cassandra Foust
