Several months back, I had a very special church reach out to me in consideration of them wanting me to be their pastor. Through a long discourse of prayer, fasting, communication, doctrinal discussions, and interviewing, I was extended an invitation, and our family was flown out for me to preach at this church back at the end of February. Two weeks later, they contacted me, notifying me that they had voted to call me as their next pastor.
This church is a special church to my family, in that, we were the first missionary family that they ever took on for support, and they have supported us for over a decade. The LifePoint Baptist Church in Portage, Indiana, also helped to minister to my brother and family through the loss of my sister-in-law back in 2013. As some of you know, we had considered starting a church in the Hobart, Indiana, area back in 2016 but knew this church was a good one fairly close by.
I do believe the Lord led us, along with another family, to start the Rock Point Baptist Church in Central Oahu in a predominately military area. Of course, in trying to confirm God’s will and possible leading, we had concern for the work here to continue on, as there has been a lot of prayer, physical work, and financial investment in it. In testing the waters, I reached out to a fellow missionary here on island, who has a military background and who is doctrinally sound, to see if he would have any interest in taking over the work. Missionary Kevin Hart had preached for us before and had helped with our soul winning and canvassing during our Grand Opening period. After a week, Brother Hart said that they would definitely be interested. A few weeks ago, Brother Hart preached during one of our Facebook Live services, and he and his family have started attending our regular services. We will be transitioning the work over to him in the coming months.
With the Lord seemingly providing a man to take over the work here, I have taken it as further confirmation that the Lord would have me assume the pastorate of LifePoint Baptist Church. In the coming weeks, we will be working further on this transition here. Then probably by the end of July, we should be moved to Indiana.
If you’d like to continue your investment in the work here in Central Oahu, both Kevin Hart, the man who will be the new pastor, and Brother Travis Stills, whom some of you know and who has been with us since before the start of the church, would be good investments. Both of these men are personal soul winners, men of integrity, and lead their families well. Brother Kevin Hart is out of Windward Baptist Church in Kahaluu, Hawaii, and Brother Travis Stills is from Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, Tennessee.
