Abbie and I have an exciting announcement to make! Abbie is expecting! Now that she is in her second trimester, the morning (or all-day) sickness is finally going away! The baby is due on October 9. We ask that you pray for a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery.
The last two months have been full of transitions from our American way of life to our Ghanaian way of life. Housework is not the same. Shopping is not the same. Cooking is not the same. We have had to learn how to use the Ghanaian transit system. I have been learning how to administrate a school. Even the weather seems strange to us! In the middle of all these transitions, it has been such a blessing to have a team of experienced fellow-laborers to help us each step of the way. When we have a question (which seems to be quite often), they are ready not only to answer but also to help. We are so blessed in those with whom we work!
One of our transitions has been learning to deal with ants! In the first couple of weeks, we made the mistake of putting a jar of peanut butter on the countertop. The lid was on tight. We thought it would be fine–but our ants LOVE peanut butter. We soon found a trail of ants leading up the side of the jar–and ants were swarming inside the lid! Peanut butter here is expensive. It must not be wasted. So I scooped out the ants and ate the rest of the peanut butter! Abbie didn’t. Abbie did, however, declare war. She drew lines all over the kitchen with our ant chalk. Ants die after they walk over a line. The ant war is still continuing. Obviously, we keep our peanut butter in the refrigerator all of the time now.
Thank you to everyone who is praying for us. Thank you to all of you who give so that we can live and work here. Soul winning here is so much fun, and it is such a blessing to get to invest in the people at Fundamental Baptist Church International. Please pray that those we see saved would grow as Christians. Please pray that I would make good progress in learning the Twi language. Please pray that God would provide more laborers for our church to reach out to more people in more ways.
Fruit to Your Account
While out soul winning on a Saturday morning, I met three men picking out lottery numbers. One of them named Kwadwo said, “I have heard people say that you only need to do good things to go to Heaven, but I think you have to go to church too. What do you think?”
I couldn’t have asked for a better opening!
When I began explaining what the Bible says it takes to go to Heaven, Antwi was sitting on a little bench farther away from us. At first he did not seem too interested, but as I kept explaining, he picked up his bench and brought it over to us so he could listen well. There was a man who looked to be about 80 sitting in a chair across the yard. I had hardly even noticed him as I was talking to the other men. This elderly man called Brother picked up his chair and brought it over to listen!
When I finished presenting the Gospel, Antwi, Kwadwo, and Brother prayed and put their trust in Jesus alone for salvation.
Then another man who had been listening asked a question about salvation, and it was so much fun to see Antwi energetically explaining the answer from what he had just learned. And he got it right!
