“Arriba Perú!” was our battle cry during June and July here in Peru. This, being interpreted is “Forward Peru!” We kept busy with our first Ladies’ Conference, our 12th wedding anniversary, Father’s Day with 18 dads, Game Night, institute nights, a mini-missions trip, our first Youth Conference, and more soul winning.
In June, our soul-winning ministry blossomed into three Saturday groups: two in the morning and one in the afternoon. The first weekend of July, we evangelized a park, four public buses, and two hospitals. Early one Saturday morning, 11 people from our church left to conduct an open-air meeting in the mountains on the outskirts of Lima. Our “rented” vehicle and driver were immediately stopped by the police for a moving violation. We took this event as evidence that God was going to give us a great day, and He did. When the vehicle could not go any further, we began to climb the stairs for 45 minutes. Our destination was literally in the clouds, and we were hyperventilating all the way up. The majority of the village came to our meeting, many were saved, and we were able to connect them with a nearby church. Our joy was to see our church members sharing the Gospel in small groups after the preaching.
Our church people have come together during our institute nights. In June, we studied the Holy Spirit. In July, we studied biblical music. Some of our young men have continued to seek counsel with a genuine desire to please God with their music. Another blessing is that we have two new guitar players and one new piano player participating during our services.
One of our greatest blessings was to have our pastor, John Wilkerson, visit us for two days. We were so refreshed by his presence and greatly edified by his counsel. This visit was exactly what we needed.
