A new work has begun—Faith Baptist Church in Nairobi, Kenya! What a joy it is to partner with you in this effort to send the Gospel to those who have no hope of hearing of salvation or becoming grounded in sound doctrine. “How shall they hear without a preacher?” As always, thank you for partnering with us in our ministry. A special thank you goes out to the churches and individuals that gave specifically to the church launch.
We searched for a location for weeks, looking at over 20 potential meeting locations. The place we are currently meeting was not even available when I found it, but after a few days of praying and getting to know the owners, the previous tenants put in their notice, making the property available in time for our Opening Day. We chose our location with the intent of being able to reach all levels of society, a place where all will feel welcome. Kenya is a third-world country, but it is growing very quickly. Because of this, we have very clear and obvious class distinctions. God has definitely provided an ideal location.
Our launch service for Faith Baptist Church was Sunday, June 26. Many months of preparation went into the Grand Opening. We had 73 people in attendance for our Opening Day, far exceeding our expectations. In the weeks leading up to the launch, we were able to distribute 2,500 invitations and Gospel tracts. In the time surrounding the church launch, we have had the opportunity to lead 72 people to Christ.
I ask for prayer for some of the men we are working with. I currently have five men who seem very promising. Most of them I led to Christ myself, and we will be baptizing them in a few weeks during our Baptism Sunday. They have already shown a great desire to follow Christ and a commitment to serve Him. We will actually be starting our discipleship program with three of the men this week, even though two of these three men work 70 hours a week.
We thank you all for making our service possible, and we look forward to sharing what God will do through Faith Baptist Church of Nairobi.
In His service,
The Newton Family
