Sam Marasco Prayer Letter: New Bible Study With Burmese Refugees

Sam Marasco Prayer Letter: New Bible Study With Burmese RefugeesThese last few months, we’ve had several unique opportunities to share the Gospel. After church one Sunday, we went to Pearl Harbor to see a Chilean warship that was docked there for a few days. We were allowed to get on the ship and tour it. It was also Sammy’s birthday, so that was really special for him to be able to do that. The Chilean sailors were very friendly, and several of them spoke English. Krista struck up a conversation with two of the lady sailors, Sibylla and Blanca, and was able to lead both of them to the Lord. I was also able to lead another sailor, Nicholas, to the Lord. Once they found out that it was Sammy’s birthday, they gave him a shirt and a hat with the ship’s name on it. We’re thankful God gave us that divine appointment. It was really neat.

Another opportunity came by way of a lady named Ze. Ze is a Burmese refugee, and she and her son Unjet have been faithfully attending our church for several months. Ze’s husband Zautu is a sushi chef on the North Shore and works long hours on Sundays, so he hasn’t been able to come to church. They have several friends who are also from Burma, and they asked me if I would be interested in coming to their house and teaching a cell group/Bible study with their friends. They are all sushi chefs and also work long hours. Late on a Sunday evening, I got to go over and preach to their friends. I presented the Gospel, and Ze translated for me. Zautu, Ze’s husband got saved, along with two of their friends. Ze recently asked about having another Bible study, at our church this time, so more of their friends can come. I’m looking forward to it. I know several of their friends are Buddhist, and I’m so thankful to have this opportunity. Please keep this upcoming Bible study in prayer.

During the Christmas season, we made up quite a few blessing bags to give to the homeless. Sadly, we have a very large homeless population here. We packed the bags with toiletries, snacks, a gift card to McDonald’s, and a Gospel tract. The families in our church had a good time going out to deliver the bags to people all over the island who are without a home. Our kids enjoyed seeing people’s faces light up when they received their gifts.

We had a “Parents’ Night Out” two weeks before Christmas. We made it available to anyone in the community. We watched children so the parents could have a date or go buy Christmas presents without the kids. We had a great turnout. We played games, had pizza, did crafts, and gave the plan of salvation. Several kids were saved, and a family started attending church afterwards.

We had our second baptism service shorty after Christmas. One was baptized, and, once again, we baptized in the ocean. We drive over there after church on Sunday morning, baptize, and then enjoy lunch on the beach. It’s something we all look forward to.

Baby Bennett, the preemie baby we asked prayer for in our last letter is doing well. He is on the countdown to leave the hospital and should be home in the next few days. Thank you for those who prayed for him.

We are finishing up our discipleship classes and are getting ready to start all over again for some new couples who just started attending church recently. They are looking forward to it, and so are we.

Thank you for your prayers and support. We appreciate you so very much.
