Daniel Wilder Prayer Letter: Almost Too LatePaul told Timothy in Titus 2:1, “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.” Although there is an abundance of religion in Guatemala, few churches preach sound doctrine. Many people have religion but do not have salvation and are made twofold more the child of hell because not only are they lost, but they believe a lie and think they are saved. Such was the case with Nazario and Lorena Roca. They had come to our church for three years, but because they had not received sound doctrine, they believed they were saved by enduring to the end and keeping the commandments of God. My wife and I witnessed to them several times during those three years; however, the light of the Gospel never pierced their hearts. I wondered if they would ever understand and get saved.

While visiting them one night, one of the men in our church started witnessing to them. It was as if the scales dropped from their spiritual eyes, and all of a sudden, they saw clearly that salvation was only by grace through faith and got saved. I thank the Lord for the power of the Holy Spirit that opens our eyes to the truth, because six months later Nazario was shot and killed in an apparent robbery attempt while returning home from his job. I stood and preached his funeral service, thanking the Lord for saving Nazario before it was too late. Please pray for his wife Lorena and their two young boys as they try to adjust to a life without their husband and father.

In my last prayer letter, I wrote about Rudy and Rosalvina, a couple that has been coming to our church for years that just recently got the assurance of their salvation. Rosalvina since has followed the Lord in baptism; but her husband still had not taken that step of obedience, and I asked prayer for him. I am very pleased to announce that Rudy decided to get baptized. Not only have Rudy and his wife Rosalvina been saved and baptized, but their daughter Vanesa got saved and baptized one month after her dad got baptized. Thank you to all of you who prayed for this couple. Please continue to pray that this family would grow spiritually and become more involved in church.

As we celebrate our 8th anniversary here at the Iglesia Bautista Bíblica Independiente in the month of December, I am fully aware that it would not have been possible without your faithful prayers and support. We are honored to represent you to the people of Guatemala and are looking forward to many more years of service.
